Brad Scheifele, the father of Winnipeg Jets’ star Mark Scheifele, has unexpectedly died according to the team.
Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff told reporters in Dallas on Saturday morning that Brad died on Friday night.

Cheveldayoff says the team is doing everything it can to support Mark and his family.
Teammates were made aware this morning and Cheveldayoff added that coach Scott Arniel went back to the hotel to be with Scheifele.

Coach Scott Arniel spoke to reporters around 4:30 p.m.
Arniel said that Mark will play tonight. He says it was a decision that Mark came to fairly quickly, feeling it's what Brad would have wanted.

Captain Adam Lowry also spoke to media in earlier in the day. Lowry said he got to know Brad well having spent his entire career in Winnipeg and seeing him on Father's trips and other visits to Winnipeg.
"The energy he had was unmatched," Lowry said speaking on Brad's personality. "His joy and excitement for life, he definitely passed it down to Mark."

The Jets are on the brink of elimination tonight with Game 6 set for 7 p.m. against the Dallas Stars. Cheveldayoff says he doesn't know yet if Mark will elect to play.
