All evacuees in the RM of Piney can return home as of 4:30 p.m. Monday. 

Manitoba Wildfire Services has confirmed that they no longer have any issues with the permiter of fire and will be able to change the status from ‘out of control’ to ‘behind held’ by the end of the day.  

As a result, council for the RM of Piney is lifting the evacuation order for all of the following locations effective immediately. 

  • South side of Whitemouth Lake Road near the townsite of Florze from Rd65E to 68E 
  • The townsite of Carrick & area 
  • The townsite of St. Labre & area 
  • The townsite of Badger & area 
  • The townsite of Woodridge & area 

Road closure signs will be removed as soon as possible. 

The fire itself started between Carrick and Badger on Saturday May 10th and picked up steam throughout the weekend. Last Monday, a state of local emergency was declared

A cautionary evacuation order was called for the south side of Whitemouth lake Road near the townsite of Florze later that day. 

Then, on Tuesday, Carrick and St. Labre were both evacuated, while Badger and Woodridge were both evacuated on Wednesday.

Since then, firefighting crews have been working to secure the perimeter of the fire and protect properties in the area while the emergency response team has been identifying evacuees and ensuring they have have access to the funds they are allotted.
