Lac du Bonnet Emergency Management updated the status of the situation in Eastern Manitoba Tuesday morning.
The notice was posted at 6:15 am, Tuesday, May 20.
It stated:
The Wendigo Fire 62 is now under control, with some work still being done in the bush to address hot spots and peat fires. We were able to repopulate all of the west side of the Lee River on Monday. The Grausdin Point / north Wendigo area is still under evacuation order, but we expect re-entry into that area soon.
The main concern now is the Bird River fire # 61 to our east, which can significantly impact our Channel Drive region, including our subdivisions on Pinawa Bay and Sunset Bay, along with the RM of Alexander.
The Wildfire Service and Bird River Fire Department are working hard to get control of this fire so that the risk to our residents is mitigated and we can open our east side.
We want to get everyone home safe, and home soon.
This fire is of the size and magnitude that, if it turned on us, with residents at home in the east region, the impacts would be devastating. So, we remain under evacuation orders in all of our region east of Belluk Road along PR 313 and PR 315.
Roadblocks remain in place to control our evacuated areas, and traffic is limited to fire responders and support vehicles.
We truly understand the impact that this fire has on our residents.
LIFE SAFETY is our #1 concern, and until we are able to mitigate that risk, we must follow the recommendations of the Provincial Wildfire Service and maintain our evacuation orders.
More information will be provided as soon as it becomes available.
