It's going to be a vibrant summer in Steinbach, popping with colour, and teeming with life as Summer in the City comes back to town—including Cultures in the City.
Tessa Masi, executive director of the Steinbach Chamber of Commerce gives a glimpse into what to expect from this year's Cultures in the City, which will be from June 13 to 15.
"You'll definitely hear us as you're approaching, which is great. We try to have little tastes of all the different cultures so there won't be one culture there for two hours—we have a pretty fast turnover," she says.
"If you're coming and sitting in the cultures area for maybe two hours on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, you can grab some food, sit down, and watch two, three, four different groups cycle through."
There is quite a range of groups represented this year.
"Some of the music groups we have this year are Ukrainian music, Metis, Island, Jamaican, East Indian, Irish, Korean, Filipino, Brazilian, African, Scandinavian, and Latin," she says, adding there will also be 10 cultural food vendors represented.
It's a pleasant change from several years ago, when it felt difficult to find participants for the event.
"The festival has picked up so much traction in the last five years that, honestly, when we open up applications...we've already made the line up in March, four or five weeks after the applications have gone live and we fill up, which is incredible," Masi says.
There will also be more opportunities to sit down and rest, she says, after doing lots of walking.
