Kleefeld is gearing up for its third annual car show, with hopes of helping fund renovations on the community's outdoor rink.

"Our outdoor rink is such a hub for kids and the community in general in wintertime, when things are a little grey and bleak outside," says Riley Friesen, chair of Kleefeld's recreation committee.

"It's just one of those things in the community that could really use an update so it can better serve the community."

The car show, which will be at the Kleefeld Recreational Centre on June 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. will be free to attend, and drivers can drop in as they please.

Donations towards the rink, however, would be welcome.

Friesen says there will be music, a raffle, full canteen, barbeque lunch, and various other treats and snacks at the event—and, of course, cars.

"We have lots of different vehicles and bikes and different things that show up," he says. "Last year it was a good turnout. We had about 85 cars I believe, and a few bikes and things like that."

He says its a great opportunity to not just see interesting vehicles, but to also meet the people that brought them.

"That's mostly what I enjoy about car shows. You get to talk to the people, and all the people who come are so down to earth and just love to talk about their vehicle and the story behind it," Friesen says.

"It's really fun and enjoyable."

He says over the summer, Kleefeld's rink will be torn out, with new boards put up, and new fencing for safety.

"It's a big project, and this is just a small piece of the pie that goes towards that, which is good. Every little bit helps," he says.
