Swift Current’s local landscaping supply company has always been more than just a landscaping supply company… but this year, NIJO Yard Supplies Plus is really taking it to the next level!
“We’re going to make this place a little more exciting by bringing in some entertainment!” said NIJO owner, Joel Cyrenne.
NIJO currently has a few retro arcade games, a sports simulator, an air hockey table, and a foosball table, but they’re just getting started. So as business grows, the amusement division will grow.
We’re building a Go-Kart track to accommodate the 24 Go-Karts purchased last year. 14 adult carts and 10 youth carts.
“It’s just a way to come in, get together and unwind, a place to come out and just relieve some stress,” said owner Nicky Cyrenne. “Our goal is to create a space where people can find community, socialize, and just have another option for fun things to do in town.”
Joel added, “We’ve noticed that there are not many activities in town aimed at teenagers and young adults, which is why we’re working on the Go Kart track this summer. There’s no set date for it to open, but it’s definitely in the works.”
The NIJO private room upstairs is available to rent for work parties, church groups, birthday parties, and more.
They’ve also expanded NIJO Café by adding more food items, like soups and hot dogs, in addition to their usual selection of baked goods and specialty drinks.
Since starting the business in 2009, as a landscaping contractor, the owners of NIJO have always worked towards filling in gaps in the community.
“We decided to go into landscaping in Swift Current because we wanted a place where people could get reliable advice and products for their DIY landscaping projects,” said Joel. “We loved doing our own landscaping, but had a hard time finding someone who would really explain the process to us.”
What started as a passion project quickly expanded over the years. In 2010, they put together a few installation crews that ended up being in such high demand, the crew started their own landscaping business. In 2013, they stepped away from landscaping to focus on selling more retail products, including paving stones, aggregates, and topsoil. In 2019, they added the store, selling outdoor décor and furniture.
“We really just have the goal of helping others,” said Joel. “To provide people with good product that lasts a long time and pass on the knowledge we’ve gained over the years.”
NIJO’s commitment to its customers and community shows in its products. If its customers don’t like a product or have recurring issues with it, they will always go the extra mile to find something better. While it recently phased out much of its outdoor décor, it still carries quality patio furniture from CR Plastics.
“CR Plastics is a Canadian-owned company whose products are manufactured in Canada with 100% recycled plastics, 7/8 inch thick. So the Adirondak chairs, picnic tables, fire and dining tables that are set up outside at Nijo for veiwing. The products come with excellent warranty at no extra cost, but I don’t think anyone who’s bought them from us has ever put in the claim for it. It’s built well,” said Joel.
Whether it’s providing good service, good products, or a fun and welcoming space to unwind, NIJO has always done what they can to make Swift Current a better place to be.
If you need landscaping supplies, advice, or want to go for the new high score on the arcade games, Nicky, Joel and the NIJO staff are always happy to see you!
