Rainy skies have been hanging around since the long weekend, but don't worry, a jump to nicer weather is right around the corner.

Current gloomy skies are being caused by a stalled system along the southern edge of the province, making for isolated thunderstorms coming from the east, and even funnel cloud risk for parts of southwest Saskatchewan. West-central has been lucky enough to stay free from the brunt of the rain showers even though the storm has been working hard to move its way west.

While most of the area avoided significant rainfall, it was at least a noticeable amount, says Environment Canada meteorologist Stephen Berg.

"It looks like for the last few days, might have had anywhere from about 6-12 mm," said Berg, giving 15 mm as the high since Saturday. "But I don't see any amounts in that Kindersley, Scott, Rosetown area that would be any more than that."

Berg provided an outlook for the rest of the week as the skies clear out, saying that we can expect some serious sunshine into the final week of May.

"Temperatures in the high-teens, low 20's for Thursday through Saturday," said Berg. "Then starting to really ramp up late in the weekend, into next week with temperatures that might approach, or exceed 30 degrees."

While we are set for seasonal weather this weekend, next week could feel like an early entry into summertime.

"The next three days or so would be classified closer to normal values... but with temperatures of 30 degrees in the extended forecast for Monday, and 32 for Tuesday, that would be around 12 degrees above normal."

Berg says that people should pay close attention to how they are feeling anytime a heat wave hits. Make sure to seek shade and shelter when you can, and with things expected to be extra sunny, if you are spending time outside be sure to lather on the sunscreen.
