Road resurfacing work, which began on Tuesday along Provincial Trunk Highway (PTH) 12 in Steinbach, will cost the province $24 million.
Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Lisa Naylor says that their goal is to keep people and goods moving on safe roadways.
The project includes resurfacing and adding fully paved shoulders to 12 km of PTH 12 in both directions from north of Park Road in Steinbach to the Seine River Diversion, located just south of Ste. Anne, with an anticipated completion date of fall 2025.
Traffic will be diverted with temporary lane closures. Detours will not be required, and construction could be completed by the last week of July, weather permitting.

Currently, work is underway in the northbound lanes of PTH 12 with a width restriction of 3.7 metres, one lane of traffic and a reduced speed limit in effect.
The province also notes PTH 12 for 3.1 km northbound and southbound between Park Road and McKenzie Avenue in Steinbach will also be resurfaced. That work will begin this summer and is anticipated to be completed this fall.
Naylor emphasizes that these projects support Manitoba’s Multi-Year Infrastructure Investment Strategy, which outlines planned strategic projects in roads, highways, bridges, airports and flood protection over the next five years.
