With nice weather expected this weekend, more people will likely be spending time outdoors.

It's the time of year where people need to be aware of ticks, most commonly found in areas with tall grass, brush, and wooded areas. Anyone who spends a considerable amount of time outdoors in these conditions is susceptible to ticks, and that goes for your pets too.

Some preventative measures people can take include wearing pants, long-sleeved shirts, and shoes that don’t show your bare feet. Tucking your pantlegs into socks can prevent ticks from crawling up, and if they do latch on, make sure to wear light coloured clothing to spot them easily. Insect repellent that contains DEET or Icaridin are also good tools, as you should make sure to apply it to both your clothes and skin, after sunscreen if using.

Other preventative steps included staying on path to avoid tall grass. When you return home it's smart to do an immediate check on yourself, your party, including pets, and if you can, shower or bathe as soon as possible to wash off the ticks.

Have you seen a tick this year? Do you have any preventative methods not listed above? Let us know in the poll below:
