Four members of the Strathmore Fire Department have returned home after battling wildfires up north earlier this month.

According to the department, the crew spent eight days supporting the communities of Boyle and Redwater as fires threatened hundreds of homes across Athabasca County and Sturgeon County.

The Strathmore firefighters arrived with a Type 6 engine and a sprinkler protection trailer.

"Our crews worked tirelessly alongside responders from over 20 other municipalities, demonstrating remarkable cooperation and commitment in the face of danger," wrote the department. "Their efforts played a crucial role in mitigating the wildfire risk to these communities."

The fires are no longer threatening the area, allowing the Strathmore crew to return home.

The department said it remains committed to supporting communities in times of crisis, both near and far.
