The Labour Day helmets will have to wait as the Riders take on the Bombers twice this pre-season

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have a football game tomorrow.

After nearly two weeks on the field for training camp in Saskatoon the Riders are headed to Winnipeg on Saturday, the location their 2024 season ended in last year's West Final, for the first of two pre-season games against the Blue Bombers. After tomorrow's game the two sides will complete a home-and-home in Regina May 30, before the regular season fires up the first week of June.

The Roughriders have unfortunately had some injury issues out of camp, most notably on the offensive line. Two key signings in the offseason, Sean McEwen and Phillipe Gagnon, both went down and are expected to miss considerable time.

There are a few more west-central native connections to the team this year joining stalwart offensive lineman Logan Ferland, who spent his early childhood in Kindersley. Rosetown native Daniel Wiebe was a late round pick out of the University of Saskatchewan and has opened some eyes at camp with the undersized receiver doing his best Weston Dressler impersonation, joining Eatonia's John Stevens who isn't on the active roster but was rather invited in after rookie camp.

The next two games will be followed by roster cuts with the season approaching. Players have two games to show their stuff, before the CFL regular season opens Thursday, June 5 in Saskatchewan with the Roughriders hosting the Ottawa Redblacks.
