Senior baseball around west-central Saskatchewan will be in full swing after the weekend with the final league left to start play, the Fertile Valley Baseball League, finally getting things going with a pair of games in Rosetown and Oyen.

Teams have played a few exhibition games ahead of the regular season schedule getting underway. Sunday sees the Kindersley Cubs hitting the road on Highway #7 east to face the Rosetown Angels, while the Kindersley Raiders hit the highway west to play the defending champion Oyen Eagles, both games starting at 6:00 PM.

The Eagles beat the Kindersley Stallions in last year's final to take home a previously elusive FVBL title for the first time. With an 8-1-1 record, Oyen finished second place behind the Stallions at 9-1. They tied the Cubs who finished third at 6-3-1, and then rounding out the standings were the Rosetown Angels taking the final playoff spot at 5-5, the Kindersley Raiders missing out at 4-6, while the Eatonia Wheat Kings finished 2-8 to place second last behind the winless Kindersley Oldtimer Klippers.

After Sunday's action there are two games set for Tuesday, May 27 in Kindersley as the Cubs play the Raiders, and the Stallions play the Klippers. Eatonia is remaining idle until June 1 when Oyen comes to town.

The Coteau Hills Baseball League got underway Thursday with a game in Elrose, another game set for tonight in Eston. The North Saskatchewan River Baseball League has been going for a couple of weeks, the Unity Cardinals the only local team and off to a good start at 2-0. The Macklin Lakers are in the Battle River Baseball League as another solo local team, aiming to defend the BRBL title for a third straight season.
