It's that time of year when local artists take the stage at K.R. Barkman park to serenade Steinbach.

Tara Schellenberg with the Steinbach Arts Council (SAC), which organizes the free concert series, says this celebration of local talent is also a celebration of the return to outdoor entertainment.

"It's almost magical," she says, describing Concerts in the Park as an informal, laid-back get together.

Not to mention, it's a great way to taste local music flavours.

"The variation of music you're going to hear, even in one evening, is going to be pretty cool," Schellenberg says.

"You might see some scenes from Shakespeare being acted out, or a family band, or some kids playing punk. It's all over the map. It really reflects the diversity of our community."

According to the 2025 schedule, Concerts in the Park will kick-off on May 27 at 6:30 p.m. with Paradise on Fire, Acorns and Armchairs, as well as Kites and Lights.

The series will wrap up on June 10 with the Looking Glass Theatre and Southeast Brass Quintet.

Schellenberg says on the day of concerts by 2 p.m., a rain call will be made and shared on the SAC's social media pages.

She encourages all to attend.

"It's a low stakes way to see what's happening in your city. It's free. You get to, if nothing else, enjoy an evening outside, you get to meet other people who are interested in music and your community. It's a great way for the community to come together," she says.
