A driver with a heavy foot paid a heavy price for speeding through Biggar looking at the latest local RCMP report.

Police managed to stop a vehicle moving through town at excessive speeds, piloted by a 36-year-old male from Martensville who was caught going 151 km/h. Not only was the vehicle well above the speed limit, but the infraction also took place in a speed reduction zone.

The vehicle was towed away to be impounded for 30 days, and the driver was also given a 7-day license suspension. A pair of fines were handed down, the main one coming in at $1033 for operating a vehicle over 50 km/h above the speed limit, and interestingly enough, another $150 fine was given out with the driver only possessing a learner's license.

"Passing through busy town intersections that intersect main highways can be dangerous at any given time at these speeds." said Sgt. Dereck Crozier of the Biggar RCMP, adding that the impoundment and suspension were a result of further provincial sanctions.

Speeding usually sees a rise as the weather starts to improve, countered by extra patrols by police aiming to keep roads safe.
