The Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park and Zoo has a new reason for you to visit.

On May 21 the zoo was excited to announce the addition of two Gila Monsters. Natives of Arizona, the lizards are known for their vibrant, colourful skin patterns according to the zoo release.

“Gila Monsters are one of the few venomous lizards in the world and we are very excited to have the opportunity to share their story with our guests,” says Jeff Mitchell, Zoo Manager. “These Gila Monsters will be important animal ambassadors in our education programs, helping visitors and students explore the fascinating world of venomous animals — from the role of venom in nature to how scientists use venom in modern medicine.”

Gila Monsters can grow anywhere between 3-4 feet long, weighing between 3 and 5 pounds. It's a venomous animal and is considered about as toxic as a western diamondback rattlesnake.

The Gila Monster is located in the Affinity Learning Centre. Open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the zoo is now home to 43 different exhibits with the Gila Monsters, featuring everything from a rabbit to a meerkat.
