A mother duck and her dozen ducklings were safely relocated to the edge of Steinbach Tuesday morning after three men came to their rescue in a busy parking lot.
The duck family was spotted wandering through the Shopper’s Drug Mart parking lot, weaving their way between vehicles and across the hot pavement. That’s when Clem, Howard and Andy stepped in.
It’s unclear whether the men knew each other beforehand, but they quickly teamed up to guide the ducks into a cardboard box. A bystander who witnessed the scene said it didn’t take long for the feathered family to cooperate.
Photos of the rescue show the men gently corralling the mallard and her ducklings before placing the box in a vehicle. The ducks were then transported to a more natural setting on the outskirts of Steinbach, near a body of water.
Hot weather is expected this week with high temperatures around 30C. Relocating the duck family to a shaded, quieter location near water will likely be a lot more comfortable.
Thanks to the quick thinking and kindness of Clem, Howard and Andy, this duck family is now in a safer home.
