LEADER, Sask. — A plan to support local housing, a $300,000 water infrastructure loan, and summer staffing wages were on the agenda during the Town of Leader’s regular council meeting Tuesday night.
Mayor Aaron Wenzel called the meeting to order at 6:58 p.m. with councillors Dustin Heatcoat, Dustin Bischoff, Craig Tondevold, Isabelle Blohm and John-Mark Bredeson in attendance, along with town administrator Erin Romanuik.
Council approved minutes from four prior meetings and moved quickly into a presentation from Brooke Clary and Pam Busby of the Leader & District Healthcare Foundation. The pair proposed a new rental housing project and requested municipal funding to support the initiative. Council thanked them for their presentation before they exited council chambers at 7:51 p.m.
Later in the evening, council adopted a Memorial Tree Planting Policy and approved the 2025 summer staff wage schedule. Details are available at the town office.
In financial business, council accepted the administrator’s report, reviewed and filed financials, and approved payment of capital and general accounts. Correspondence was also read and filed.
A significant infrastructure motion passed when council adopted Bylaw No. 01/25, authorizing the town to incur $300,000 in debt for the construction of a new water storage tank. The bylaw passed all three readings.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 p.m.
