With the Kindersley Indoor Rodeo kicking off tonight, we can’t help but wonder if there are some new events that could be added to the performances. On the Nick Cooper Morning Show, we talked about a few different ideas, but let’s take a second to dig a little deeper and flesh them out.
Kitten Herding
This could be one of the easiest and simplest events—something you could even try at home. All you need is a small box with a few kittens inside. The goal? Move each kitten individually into another box while they do their best to escape. Maybe this one would work better as an Olympic sport too.
Chicken Catching
Anyone who’s raised chickens knows they can be wild, agile, and downright mean when they want to be. The goal of this event is to catch all the chickens before time runs out. Sounds simple—until the arena is full of sprinting, flapping chaos.
Dog Wrestling
Coming up with names for these events is hard, but this one says it all. The idea: release a dog that has something in its mouth it shouldn’t, and your job is to get it back. Sounds easy—until you remember how your dog turns into a speed-eating machine the moment you get close. You could even have different classes of competition, ranging from small dogs to a mildly wild coyote (assuming the right insurance and safety measures, of course).
Rock Picking
The chore every farmer dreads could be turned into a rodeo challenge. Picture this: everyone gets their own lane and has to clear out all the rocks. Easy, right? Not quite. It would require coordination, strength, and endurance—everything a good sport needs.
Blind Duck Catching
Now this would be fantastic—and it doesn’t have to be limited to ducks. The concept is simple: catch an animal that doesn’t want to be caught but doesn’t mind too much either. Watch the video below and you’ll agree: this needs to be a main event at every rodeo.
