IG Wealth Management and The Alzheimer's Society brings the walk to Steinbach.

People from Steinbach and surrounding communities gathered in A.D. Penner Park for the walk today, spreading awareness about the struggles facing people with dementia.

South Eastman regional coordinator with The Alzheimer's Society, Sierra Dueck says that this is their second year back since COVID, and the amount of support for the walk has doubled.

“It's really great to see the community coming together and supporting one another in this way.  So it's amazing.”

This event allowed two caregivers to speak about their experiences, offering a voice to those who wanted to share their story.

Dueck says that coming together at an event like this is important because it shows unity and support.

“We've heard lots of different stories and experiences shared tonight. So it's a really great atmosphere and a very supportive one”

The event had people of all ages who have experience taking care of someone with Alzheimer's. Many walked for family members. Dueck notes that there is a huge number of people affected.

“We also know that 62% of people living in Manitoba either have had or currently have someone living with the disease in their circle, right? So it affects a lot of people.”
