Ducks Unlimited Canada's annual Duck and Run fundraiser is back, giving Saskatchewan residents the chance to run, walk, roll — or even waddle — in support of Canada’s wetlands.

Events will take place June 21 in Saskatoon and June 22 in Regina, part of a nationwide push to protect wetland ecosystems through Ducks Unlimited Canada’s (DUC) signature family-friendly 1K and 5K fun runs.

In Saskatoon, the event will be held along the Meewasin Trails near Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s, with sign-in starting at 9:30 a.m. and the race at 10:00. The Regina event will follow the next day at Wascana Park’s Queen Elizabeth II Lawn, with an 11:00 a.m. start.

The event aims to raise awareness and funds for wetland conservation — vital ecosystems that filter water, reduce flooding and fires, store carbon and provide habitat for over 550 species, 97 of which are currently at risk.

“Wetlands are some of the most important natural assets we have,” said DUC spokesperson Ashley Lewis. “Duck and Run is a fun way for families, nature lovers and fitness fans to show their support.”

Adults can register for $30, youth aged 5-12 for $15, and kids under 5 run free. All registered participants receive a commemorative medal, and prizes will be awarded to the top three fundraisers at each location.

More than $80,000 was raised during the 2024 event, and organizers hope to top that number this year with the help of a new mobile fundraising app and expanded race locations, including the event’s debut in Québec.
