Football season is in the air around Saskatchewan. Not only are the Saskatchewan Roughriders set to kick off the CFL regular season on Thursday against Ottawa, but spring high school football is getting underway with local teams using their allotted practice time.
The Kindersley Kobras football team is confirmed to be holding their spring camp starting Monday. Any Kindersley students in Grade 6-11 are welcome to come out and try football this week June 2-6 with daily practices from 4-6 PM.

June is typically when teams hold their spring camp. Rosetown Royals coach Mitch Wintonyk shared with the newsroom that their camp typically runs once track and field is over, and when some athletes are free from responsibilities on the farm.
Per SHSAA rules, spring camps are only limited to five practices, are limited to controlled contact drills, and may not interfere with other school sport activities. Scrimmages must wait until the final day where the game will be closely supervised, and athletes must wear full equipment. Teams do not have the option of playing other schools in games or otherwise controlled scrimmages.
Spring camp gives coaches a good idea of their team numbers into the fall and gives players (experienced or not) a chance to strap on the pads and get a taste of the gridiron before school breaks for the summer.
