Country duo Banned and Outlawed are turning up the summer vibes with their brand-new single, Backyard Bar, a laid-back anthem born from real backyard hangs, fireside jams, and a homemade tiki bar.
Speaking with Carly Koop on Country 107, the brothers shared how the song came to life during a writing session in Nashville with Chris Buck. "We just wanted to write something that felt like summer—bonfires, guitars, and being with family," they said. Though it started as a more rock-heavy idea, the track mellowed out in the studio to better reflect the relaxed, guitar-in-hand backyard vibe they envisioned.
Turns out, the inspiration was close to home—literally. "During the pandemic, we built a tiki bar in the backyard," they shared with a laugh. “We strung up some lights, had small get-togethers, and made the best of it.”
The song is more than a catchy summer tune—it’s a nod to their roots. Growing up with musical family gatherings and fireside fiddle sessions, it felt natural to turn that experience into music. "Our grandpa and uncles would always bring instruments to backyard parties,” they said. “We just grew up around it.”
Fans can expect Backyard Bar to be a staple in the band’s summer setlist, with shows planned across July, including campground performances that perfectly fit the backyard-party vibe.
As for the best part of the song? The duo point to the bridge: "Mix up the drink strong, have a little sing-along..."—a section that invites everyone to join in, just like at one of their own backyard parties.
The interview wrapped with a fun lightning round, revealing that one brother takes BBQ duty seriously, the other is a surprise badminton champ, and both agree: it’s not a real backyard party without beer and burgers.
Backyard Bar is now playing on Country 107, and the music video coming out on Friday—complete with bonfires and rodeo scenes—adds even more summer charm to this backyard-born anthem.
