NORTH BATTLEFORD, Sask. — A Saskatoon man is facing drug trafficking charges after Battlefords RCMP seized a large quantity of suspected fentanyl during an arrest last week.

On May 30 around 12:10 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance along 100th Street in North Battleford, where they located an adult male, RCMP said in a Tuesday news release.

The man initially provided officers with a name that matched an individual wanted on outstanding warrants. He was arrested, but police later discovered he had given a false identity.

Officers say they found approximately 30 grams of a substance believed to be fentanyl, along with drug trafficking paraphernalia. The substance has been sent to Health Canada for confirmation.

Following further investigation, the individual was identified as 30-year-old Brandon Baldhead of Saskatoon.

Baldhead is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and obstructing a peace officer under the Criminal Code.

He appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on June 2. RCMP say the investigation is ongoing.
