A Nova Scotia man has been charged following an RCMP investigation into allegations of child exploitation involving explicit messages exchanged over Snapchat.

Lloydminster RCMP say they received a complaint on March 18, 2025, about an adult sending sexually explicit images to a minor via the social media app. Investigators allege the suspect also travelled to the Lloydminster area with the intent to commit further sexual offences.

The case was taken over by the Lloydminster RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS), which identified the suspect as a man originally from Prince Edward Island who had been living in Ontario at the time of the Snapchat communications. Police say he later relocated to Nova Scotia.

A Canada-wide arrest warrant was issued, and Nova Scotia RCMP arrested the suspect on May 27.

Travis James Birt, 29, of Nova Scotia, is charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, child luring, possession of child pornography, and making sexually explicit material available to a child.

He was remanded into custody following a court appearance before a justice of the peace and is scheduled to appear in Saskatchewan Provincial Court in Lloydminster on June 9.

“We would like to thank Nova Scotia RCMP for their assistance in arresting this individual,” said S/Sgt. Nutbrown of the Lloydminster RCMP GIS. “We have sent out Birt’s picture in hopes that other potential victims will come forth and speak with their local police.”

Anyone with information about this case, or who believes they may have been a victim, is asked to contact Lloydminster RCMP at 780-808-8400 or their local police.
