Kindersley is seeing a welcome boost in housing options with the addition of two new multi-unit residential buildings located at 500 Railway Avenue East, just behind Walmart. The development brings 20 modern one- and two-bedroom units to the community, offering more affordable options for residents seeking quality rental housing.

Mayor Ken Francis, who visited the site during the move-in process, shared his impressions of the project and its significance for Kindersley.

“I actually went there the day they moved the buildings in,” said Francis. “It’s quite amazing how big those buildings are. I thought they'd be in more pieces, but they were pretty much fully built on the truck. They look very modern.”

The buildings, constructed by Zak's Building Group's residential team, are part of a growing effort to provide more accessible housing in Kindersley. According to mayor Francis, the development helps fill a clear gap in the local housing market.

“They're going to fill a need that’s obviously missing in Kindersley,” he said. “I wouldn’t say entry level necessarily, but it’s going to be at a better price point, especially for new construction. That’s going to be very popular with young folks and maybe even small families.”

The project was initiated under the tenure of former Mayor Rod Perkins and is being carried out by a private developer. Although Francis has not yet met the developer personally, he noted that interest in the new units is already high, and if the buildings fill quickly, there's potential for a second phase.

“He does have a first right of refusal on the adjoining property to the west, up against Ditson,” Francis explained. “So, if this fills up, there could be another couple of units added. Time will tell, but it sounds like things are going quite well.”

The location is also a strong point in the development’s favor. Residents will have easy access to nearby businesses, including Walmart and the adjacent strip mall, as well as recreational amenities like the rink, ball diamonds, and the pool.

“It’s a good little spot,” said Francis. “It’s a good use of land that was kind of just sitting idle. Hopefully this is the start of more good things. More residents in that area might even attract more businesses.”

Overall, the addition of these new apartments is a positive sign for Kindersley’s ongoing growth. “They’re a great addition to the town,” Francis said. “They’re very, very nice looking, and from the pictures I’ve seen, the interiors look just as good. It’s exciting to see construction like this happening.”
