A Rosetown-raised man will be spending the next few months behind bars after his recent sentencing on several charges in Swift Current.

38-year-old David Cressman appeared in Swift Current Provincial Court on Wednesday morning, where he pleaded on six of nine charges;

Two counts of failing to appear in court,
One count of possession of stolen property in the form of a truck,
One count of driving while disqualified,
One count of obstruction of justice, and
One count of failing to stop for police.

Judge O'Hanlon handed Cressman a total of 130 days in a provincial correctional facility, with 30 days credited for time served, for 100 days left to serve in custody.

Several charges were stayed, including one count of failure to appear and one count of dangerously operating a vehicle, and the victim impact surcharge was waived.

Crown prosecutor, Curtis Wiebe, shared that much of the reason for the accused's troubles and court appearances is due to his past use of methamphetamines.

"You're going to be 39 in under two weeks, and it's unfortunate that you're going to spend your birthday in prison," said Wiebe while addressing Cressman. "Hopefully you'll be out before your baby is born [in a few months] and don't spend your 40th or any other birthday in prison."

The charges stemmed from a series of offences from May 30, 2024, to May 16, 2025, which included one incident on April 29 when the current resident of Swift Current was reportedly driving a stolen truck on Highway Four. He refused to stop when approached by law enforcement, taking off on the Trans Canada Highway and ditching the truck in a field outside of Waldeck.

Another incident took place on May 16 when Cressman was recognized by a Swift Current Municipal RCMP and fled on foot towards Robert Street in an attempt to escape. Cressman was apprehended when he fell trying to squeeze between a parked car and a fence.
