Chef JP Charpentier is bringing a French twist to the heart of Steinbach as he prepares to open the much-anticipated Forum & Bistro at the Southeast Event Centre. Set to open on June 12, the restaurant promises to delight guests with authentic French bistro fare while supporting the community.
A French bistro vibe
“I’m very excited to see guests inside the restaurant, enjoying good food and good times,” says Charpentier. “We’re aiming for a French bistro feel, but with simple, authentic dishes that everyone will love.”
Guests can expect to see classic dishes like the Croque Monsieur – a French grilled sandwich with ham, creamy bechamel and cheese – and its variations, the Croque Madam with a sunny-side egg, and the vegetarian Croque Mademoiselle.
Signature dishes
One of the highlights on the menu will be the HyLife pork steaks, served with creamy mashed potatoes, salad, and fresh green vegetables. Drawing on his roots in the south of France, Charpentier is also bringing a seafood-focused menu to Steinbach, with dishes like salmon papillote and walleye, bringing a fresh taste of the sea to the region.
“These dishes are very close to my heart,” he says. “We don’t see a lot of seafood dishes in Steinbach, so I’m excited to introduce them to our guests.”
A community-driven restaurant
As part of the Southeast Event Centre, Forum & Bistro will operate as a not-for-profit venture. “Everything that we make at the restaurant will go back into the Event Centre,” explains Charpentier. “If we need to upgrade the playground, the seating, or the premium area, the money we make will support those projects.”
The Event Centre, a hub for community events and activities, has been opening in stages, including concession stands and grab-and-go options. With Forum & Bistro’s opening aligning with the launch of Summer in the City, June 12 is shaping up to be a date to remember for the community.
“When you come for a meal at Forum & Bistro, you’re not just enjoying great food,” says Charpentier. “You’re investing in our community and in the future of the Southeast Event Centre.”
