The Strathmore Spartans senior boys football team kicked off its preseason over the weekend.
On Saturday (June 7) the Spartans were playing a scrimmage against the Drumheller Titans at the Strathmore High School football field.
"It's a glorified practice," said head coach Danny Warrack. "We go out, knock some rust off, get our confidence up."
Because of the nature of the game, the teams did not keep score and instead used the matchup to review their team's playstyle.
"Our passing game was really good. We completed 21 passes," added Warrack. "We didn't run the ball a ton, but when we did it was competent."
Warrack also praised their offense in the game, highlighting the development the team has went through over the last year.
"Defensively we struggled early, but it's slowly getting better. I felt the defense got better as the game went on."
The team is spending the preseason working on emotional control, creating a ten-second rule during moments of high emotion.
The season begins on Aug. 16 before their first game on Aug. 23 in Lethbridge.
