The Hanover School Division (HSD) says it remains optimistic in light of a recent provincial measles notification.

Friday afternoon, the province identifiedĀ Green Valley School as one of two new measles exposure sites in the province.

Joe Thiessen, superintendent of HSD, says the division has responded by discussing basic prevention, what measles is, and how it spreads.

"I mean, overall, we're trying to take care of our own health and take care of others as well," he says.

What has stood out to him most is the way families have responded.

"We've been so impressed, and thankful, for the parental support and the positive response we've had so far," Thiessen explains. "Everybody has remained calm and just followed public health recommendations, so that part has been great."

He notes that Manitoba Health has taken the lead in communicating directly with parents, which is another reason he feels grateful.

In the meantime, he encourages proper handwashing and taking care of oneself when feeling unwell.

"We're hopeful and positive that we'll be moving forward from here," Thiessen says. "We want people to know that we care—and we want people to obviously stay healthy."
