Parking restrictions for all motorized vehicles will be in place in the Kananaskis Valley ahead of the 2025 G7 Leaders’ Summit.

Parking restrictions for all motorized vehicles will be in place in the Kananaskis Valley effective on Saturday ahead of the 2025 G7 Leaders’ Summit.

The restrictions take effect at 12:01 a.m. on June 14 and will remain in place until June 18. RCMP will enforce the parking ban along Highway 40, from the Highway 1 junction to the north winter closure gate at the Kananaskis Lakes Trail junction.

Officials say the restrictions are necessary to ensure the safety of internationally protected persons, summit participants and to allow for the safe movement of police vehicles operating in the area.

While the Integrated Security and Safety Group (ISSG) says no monetary fines will be issued, any vehicles parked in restricted zones may be removed and held at a secure location. Vehicle owners will be responsible for any towing or impound fees.

RCMP officers will also conduct accreditation checks along Highway 40 and will advise motorists of the restrictions as they travel through the valley.

The parking restrictions are being implemented under Section 43 of Alberta’s Traffic Safety Act, with support from Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors.
