LUSELAND, Sask. — An Alberta man is facing impaired driving charges following a swift response by the Luseland Police Service to reports of a dangerous driver on Highway 31.

Police say they received several calls around the early morning hours of May 27 about a vehicle driving erratically westbound from Kerrobert to Luseland. Officers intercepted the vehicle shortly after and arrested a 32-year-old male driver.

He has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

Chief Ty Kohlman praised members of the public who called in the incident, saying their quick action may have prevented a serious or even fatal outcome.

“Given the details of the call, this was an urgent matter that if not reported may have ended differently,” said Kohlman. “We’re extremely grateful to those who made the call that day.”

The incident serves as a reminder of the severe consequences of impaired driving, which can include legal penalties, serious injury, or death. Kohlman urged residents to plan ahead if they intend to consume alcohol or cannabis, and to arrange for a safe ride home.

Luseland Police Service says it will be increasing sobriety checks throughout the summer as part of its efforts to keep roads safe.

“Thank you for doing your part to keep our community safe,” said Kohlman.
