Road closures will start Thursday morning in downtown Steinbach in anticipation of this weekend's Summer In The City festival.
Randy Reimer is head of Public Works for the City of Steinbach. He says the first closure happens Thursday morning at 7 am along Reimer Avenue from First Street to Elmdale Street. This is to accommodate setup of the midway.
Then on Thursday at 6 pm, Main Street will be closed from Friesen Avenue to Barkman Avenue. Cars must be off the street by 6 pm.
Reimer says Steinbach Credit Union is having its annual pancake breakfast Friday morning. As a result, Lumber Avenue will be closed from Main Street to Elmdale Street. This closure will take place from 7 am to 11 am.
One final closure happens on Saturday along Lumber Avenue from First Street to Main Street. This portion will be closed from Noon to 9 pm.
Reimer reminds the public that the Main Street car show will not be happening this year. As a result, Main Street will remain open all weekend from Highway 12 to Friesen Avenue.
According to Reimer, the goal is to have the Main Street and Reimer Avenue closures lifted by Sunday at midnight.
Meanwhile, motorists driving through Steinbach over the weekend will want to take note of the detour that will be in effect. Because of the Main Street closure happening Thursday evening, Reimer says traffic from the west should turn south at the Highway 12 and Highway 52 intersection, then east down McKenzie Avenue to Highway 52 which will take you east towards La Broquerie.
