The City of Chestermere is hosting a Walk and Talk for Men's Mental Health Week.
Categories

Chestermere is raising awareness on men's mental health in recognition of Men's Mental Health Awareness Day.

The city is hosting its first Walk and Talk on Friday (June 13) from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. around John Peake Memorial Park.

The event features information stations, a resource table run by the Men's Shed, snacks, and light refreshments under the gazebo for men and their families.

"We're hoping it starts more conversations about men's mental health. It is something that is often overlooked, stigmatized, and too plain and simple," said Kenzie Huddleston, the community wellness facilitator of Chestermere.  "This is one way to show that they are seen, heard, and valued."

The four stations featured include:

  • A Stress Toolbox Station where men can learn grounding techniques and measure their stress.
  • A Myth vs. Impact Station where participants can write down a myth and its effects.
  • A How to Check in Station where people can learn proper ways to check in with men.
  • A Get It Off Your Chest Station where men can write down any private feelings or thoughts weighing on them to be shredded afterwards.

"We are hoping that families, coworkers, and loved ones can come and learn how to support the men in their life," Huddleston added.

The Men's Shed is a Chestermere-based group for men aged 18 and older to connect, talk, teach, and work on projects together.

According to the Canadian Men's Health Foundation, a 2025 study of 2,000 Canadian men over 18 years old and found that 67 per cent do not seek out professional mental health services and that 64 per cent experience moderate to high levels of stress.

June 9 to 15 is Men's Health Week.
