Chestermere firefighters were comforting children following a car crash on the east side of the city.
The crash was on Tuesday (June 10) at around 4 p.m. at the intersection of Range Road 284 and Chestermere Boulevard. Police say the crash was between three vehicles - a black truck, a grey truck, and a black SUV.
MJ Rhodes, the driver of the SUV, was with her children when the crash happened.
"They both hit each other, and I got spun into." explained Rhodes, saying that she immediately checked on her children after the crash.
"My main concern was my baby, because she was immediately screaming, and both of my children were completely in panic."
After the family exited the vehicle, Chestermere firefighters arrived the scene.
"They were super great. They gave my kids some stuffies and plastic firefighter hats and helped them calm down," added Rhodes. "I was thankful, because my kids were very scared. While I'm trying to regulate myself, the firefighters were helping my kids calm down, so it gave me time to destress."
Having never been in a crash before, Rhodes is now dealing with insurance companies and personal injury lawyers. She believes the crash could have been prevented.
"It's crucial to develop the area properly. The intersection I was at, the crash may have been avoided if there was some kind of control there. There's a light about 50 metres ahead, but there should be another one there."
Police say that a child in one of the trucks was taken to hospital for a leg injury, with the cause of the crash still under investigation. Nobody else was injured.
Traffic became heavy as crews worked on cleaning the road, which took several hours.
