The Rural Municipality of Hanover has started to tackle its street and sidewalk improvements for 2025.
The municipality has approximately $814,000 worth of these projects in its communities, many of which are being funded with the help of Local Urban Districts.
Steph Duval is Engineering Technologist for Hanover. He says in Blumenort they have one project that has already started. Crews are working on a concrete sidewalk along Crestview Lane/ Edgemont Place from Rockridge Drive to Edgemont Place. The work started on June 2nd and Duval says it should be wrapped up within the next week or two. The tender came in at $85,000.
Duval says there are two asphalt projects planned for Blumenort this year. One of those is a sidewalk around Stoney Creek Pond. He notes they have a tentative start date of mid to late June. The tender came in at $46,000. The other project is asphalt reconstruction from Park Street to the end of Parkview Bay. Duval says crews have already started some of the curb and gutter work and the paving will likely happen in late June. The tender for this project came in at $64,000.
There are several projects happening in Mitchell this year. Duval says crews are working on an asphalt sidewalk from Burntwood Drive to Amberfield Drive. That project is tentatively scheduled to start on June 23rd. They are also working on an asphalt sidewalk along Centre Street North from Oakview Avenue to 140 metres south. Duval says that project will likely start in mid-July. He notes the tender for both of these asphalt projects is $103,000.
Mitchell also has a couple of concrete sidewalk projects planned for this year. One of these is along Oakview Avenue from Elm Street to Centre Street North. The other is from Birchwood Lane to the co-op parking lot. The tender for both of these is $64,000.
Duval says in New Bothwell, crews will be constructing a concrete sidewalk and swale from Fernwood Way to Crown Valley Road. The work will likely happen in August. The tender for this project was $70,000.
In Kleefeld, there are a couple of different projects being planned. Duval says crews will be reconstructing Park Avenue, with work likely happening in July. The tender came in at $205,000, with $75,000 estimated for sidewalk repairs.
There is also an asphalt overlay project planned for Kleefeld on the sidewalk from Deerpath Drive to Aspen Bay. Duval notes the groundwork has already started and the paving should happen in the next week or two. The tender came in at $20,000.
One other project that Duval wants to highlight is the road reconstruction of Westland Drive. This is the road that runs past the RM of Hanover municipal office. The work started in early June and crews were able to pave it late last week. Duval notes there were some issues with some soft spots and crews needed to wait for the road to dry out before paving. The project is tendered at $82,000.
