Nearly a week after a pipe bomb was found and safely dismantled in a Lloydminster backyard, RCMP continue to investigate the incident.
The device was discovered on the morning of June 12 in the backyard of a home on 41st Street near 49th Avenue. Police quickly secured the area and called in the Alberta RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit, which confirmed it was a functioning pipe bomb and rendered it safe.
Since then, Lloydminster RCMP have been working with the EDU, Police Dog Services, and the General Investigation Section to trace the origins of the device. At this time, it's still unclear whether the incident was isolated or if there's any broader risk.
Authorities continue to urge the public to remain cautious. Anyone who notices suspicious objects or behavior should avoid contact and notify police immediately.
Information can be reported directly to Lloydminster RCMP at 780-808-8400, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or online at P3Tips.com.
