A man from St. Pierre was hospitalized as the result of a fatal crash Tuesday morning north of Winnipeg.
At 11 am, Selkirk RCMP and RCMP Central Traffic Services responded to the crash on Highway 8, north of Bay Road in the Rural Municipality of St. Andrews.
Officers responded immediately, along with emergency medical services and the local fire department. When they arrived, officers observed a large truck on its side in the west ditch and a sedan in the middle of the road.
Further investigation revealed that the large truck was travelling south on Highway 8 and the sedan was heading north, when it suddenly veered into the other lane, colliding head-on with the truck.
The driver, a 36-year-old male from Winnipeg, and sole occupant of the sedan was pronounced dead on scene. The driver of the large truck, a 67-year-old male from St. Pierre, was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, an RCMP Remotely Piloted Aircraft System operator and Motor Carrier Enforcement assisted with the investigation at the scene. The Highway was re-opened at approximately 3:40 pm.
Selkirk RCMP continue to investigate.
