December 7, 1935 - June 12, 2025
It is with deep sadness that the family of Marita Alicia Salberg announces her passing on June 12, 2025 at Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current, SK. Marita passed away peacefully at the age of 89.
Marita was born December 7, 1935 in North Battleford, SK, and raised in Aneroid, SK. She married Orvel Salberg on October 8, 1956 in Hazenmore, SK. Marita was a dedicated teacher who spent many years guiding and nurturing young minds. Gentle, kind, and always smiling, Marita had a special gift for making others feel cared for and valued. Her warmth and gracious spirit endeared her to everyone she met - from students and colleagues, friends, her Bentley community, to the many caregivers who came to love her in later years.
A woman of deep faith, Marita was a long-standing member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, and later Christ the Redeemer Roman Catholic Parish. She was also an active member of the Catholic Women’s League, where she formed lasting friendships and generously gave her time and talents.
Social at heart, Marita loved spending time with friends and family. She and Orvel enjoyed bike riding together, sharing their love of the outdoors and each other’s company. After retiring, they cherished traveling and spending winters down south. Evenings on their patio swing were special moments of quiet contentment, often surrounded by the beautiful flowers that adorned the front of their home. For many years, they coordinated annual Grey Cup parties with a close-knit group of long-time friends - gatherings full of laughter and friendship.
At the center of Marita’s life was her family. She poured her love and energy into raising her children and sharing a deep bond with Orvel. Family gatherings were her greatest joy; whether preparing meals, sharing stories, or simply being present with those she loved. Marita was the quiet, steady heart of her family - a source of comfort, wisdom, and unconditional love. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were especially dear to her, and she took immense pride in watching them grow.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Orvel; her parents Ralph and Eva Brennen; her brothers Clayton Brennen, Maxwell (Val) Brennen, and Patrick (Mary) Brennen; brother-in-law Chris Collins, and sister-in-law Audrey McLeod.
Marita is survived by her children Chris (Charlynne) Salberg, Kay Salberg (Alan Schmidt), Jeff (Linda) Salberg, Marty (Sandy) Salberg, and Maura Griffith; her grandchildren Carly Tank, Corey (Dwight) Wenzel, Tyson Wall, Jaycee (Erik) Genoway, Luke Wall, Alexa (Matt) Dowden, Regan (Brendan) Schwan, Liam Salberg, Jordyn Salberg, and Alicia Griffith; eight beloved great-grandchildren; sisters Cecelia (John) Macdonald, and Mae Collins; sister-in-law Colleen Brennen; and treasured nieces and nephews.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Cypress Regional Hospital. They also express deep gratitude to the wonderful staff and friends at the Bentley, who often spoke of how much they will miss Marita - her beautiful smile, kindness, and warm spirit. Additionally, the dedicated home care team provided exceptional support and companionship, helping Marita remain comfortable and well cared for in her own home.
Marita’s gentle presence, devotion to her faith, and deep love for family will be missed more than words can express, her cherished memories will forever be in the hearts of all who knew her.
A private Funeral Mass will be held at Christ the Redeemer Roman Catholic Parish, with Father Daniel Malone officiating. The interment will take place at Memory Gardens, Swift Current, SK where she will be laid to rest beside her husband Orvel.
