A man from Siksika Nation has been laid 20 charges in relation to a series of vehicle thefts.

Southern Alberta RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (SAD CRU) worked with RCMP officers from Vulcan, High River, Airdrie, Gleichen, and Strathmore in the investigation.

On June 16, Strathmore and Gleichen RCMP arrested suspect 25-year-old Charlie Wolfear after the theft of a bait truck. The RCMP tracked the truck into Strathmore, and SAD CRU arrested Wolfear after a foot chase. 

Wolfear is a suspect of 17 car thefts that happened between April 20 and June 15. After being arrested, he was charged by SAD CRU and Strathmore RCMP with numerous offences, including: 

  • Theft of a vehicle (x2).
  • Resisting arrest.
  • Failure to comply with release order (x2).
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance.
  • Driving an uninsured vehicle (x3).
  • Possession of stolen property over $5000 (x2).
  • Possession of stolen property under $5000.
  • Theft of a debit card (x2).

The Gleichen RCMP charged Wolfear with the following:

  • Mischief over $5000.
  • Taking a vehicle without permission.
  • Driving an uninsured vehicle.
  • Possession of stolen property over $5000.
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon. 
  • Possession of a gun with a tampered serial number. 

Airdire RCMP also charged Wolfear for stealing a vehicle. 

Wolfear is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice on July 3.
