Graduation is a major milestone, and for the Swift Current Comprehensive High School Class of 2025, it’s being marked with more than just a ceremony. Following their Grand March on June 26, students will head into a night of celebration at Dry Grad – an all-night, alcohol- and drug-free event packed with food, games, music, and prizes.

"The goal is to give students a safe space to celebrate together," says Kristie Stewart, chairperson of this year’s Dry Grad Committee. "We want them to have fun and enjoy each other’s company without the risks that can come with grad night."

The committee, which includes 21 dedicated members made up of grad parents, student liaisons, and one teacher, has been meeting monthly to plan this year’s Dry Grad. Their focus: creating a memorable, safe experience for every graduate.

A night of safe celebration

Once the Grand March wraps up, Dry Grad kicks off, with entry by ticket only and doors closing early to ensure safety. The evening runs until 2:30 a.m. and features a wide variety of entertainment.

"We’ve got everything from casino games and axe throwing to inflatables, photo booths, and a dance floor," says Stewart. "There's a hypnotist performance later in the night and lots of mocktails and candy bars to keep the energy up."

To keep grads engaged and onsite throughout the night, all prizes – and there are many – are only available to those who stay until the end.

"It’s all about making sure students are safe and having a great time with their peers."

Gratitude for community generosity

The success of Dry Grad wouldn't be possible without the generous support of local sponsors. Businesses and individuals from across the community have stepped up to donate money, prizes, food, services, and their time.

"We are incredibly thankful to all our sponsors," Stewart says. "Their contributions – whether financial, through prize donations, discounts, or volunteering – are what allow us to make this event happen."

In addition to sponsors, the night is powered by a small army of parent volunteers who help run activities, manage logistics, and keep things running smoothly.

"It really takes a village, and our community has shown up in a big way for these grads."

As the SCCHS Class of 2025 prepares to turn the page on high school, Dry Grad offers a meaningful and safe send-off, one made possible by the unwavering support of Swift Current and its people.

"We just want to say thank you," Stewart adds. "This celebration belongs to the grads, but it’s made possible by our whole community."
