Organizers of the Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration at Assiniboine Park have announced changes to Sunday’s event schedule due to the forecast of rain and lightning.

While many activities will still go ahead, some outdoor elements have been cancelled or moved indoors to ensure the safety and comfort of guests, staff and volunteers.

According to a release from Assiniboine Park Conservancy, food trucks and bouncy castles have been cancelled altogether. Outdoor performances, cultural demonstrations and partner activations will now take place inside The Leaf’s event hall.

Workshops originally planned for the Tannis M. Richardson Classroom in The Leaf will proceed as scheduled.

Garden tours and teachings related to fire and tobacco are currently listed as tentative and may still take place if weather conditions improve.

The event is part of a national celebration recognizing and honouring the culture, heritage and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.
