GENEVIEVE TONI

December 7th, 1928 — February 14th, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Genevieve Toni (née: Hanoski) in her sleep on Friday, February 14th, 2025, at Keedwell Assisted Living in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.  Genevieve was born on December 7th, 1928, in Regina, Saskatchewan.  She was adopted by Rose and Jacob Hanoski in August 1929 and raised on the family farm 3 miles north of Spring Valley, Saskatchewan.  She went to Artesian School in Spring Valley, riding her bike in the warm weather and her horse in winter.

During the war, Genevieve worked as a waitress at the Exchange Café at the corner of Main and Manitoba Streets in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and lived with her future sister-in-law, Elizabeth Toni.  She married Wesley Toni on September 25th, 1945, and they lived on and farmed the Hanoski Farm until September 30th, 1960, when they moved to Moose Jaw.

In Moose Jaw Genvieve worked as a cashier at Loblaws and Wesley worked in a variety of departments at the Air Base south of Moose Jaw.  After leaving Loblaws Genevieve continued with her love of sewing.  She was an accomplished seamstress sewing many wedding dresses, even repairing a wedding dress sewn by someone else.  She loved caring for her grandchildren while fitting in her love of sewing.  Mom and Dad had a family of 5: Dale, Brian, Leslie, Blaine, and Sheila.  After retirement they enjoyed many winters in Palm Springs with family and friends at their winter home.

She was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Rose Hanoski; husband, Wesley in 2000; and son, Brian in 2001.  Genevieve leaves to mourn her sons: Dale (Carol), Leslie, and Blaine (Glennis); daughter, Sheila; brother, Howard Collins (Verda); sisters-in-law, Agnes Toni and Eva Toni; as well as 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

The family thanks the staff and caregivers at Aspira West Park Crossing in Moose Jaw for the love mom felt while she was in their care.  Mom moved to Saskatoon and spent her last year at Keedwell Assisted Living where she received home like care and love.

A Funeral Mass was held at St Augustine Parish Church in Saskatoon.  A Celebration of Genevieve’s Life will be held on Friday, July 4th, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. in the Harvey Room at Moose Jaw Funeral Home, with interment to follow at Rosedale Cemetery.

Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Gary McDowell, Funeral Director 306-693-4550 www.moosejawfuneralhome.com
