Several road closures and transit impacts are in place throughout the day on Tuesday, July 1 to accommodate the Canada Day Parade taking place downtown.
The parade begins at 2 p.m., starting near Hillside School (108 Avenue and 94 Street) and proceeding along 100 Avenue to Northwestern Polytechnic’s Parking Lot B.
Transportation impacts
Road closures are in effect at the following times and locations to accommodate the parade:
- 100 Avenue (between 98 Street and 102 Street): 5 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- 100 Avenue (between 93 Street and 106 Street): 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
- 108 Avenue (between 94 Street and 96 Street): 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
- 96 Street (between 108 Avenue and 100 Avenue): 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
- 106 Street and Henry Anderson Drive (between 100 Avenue and 107 Avenue): 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Drivers are encouraged to use 92 Street or 108 Street for north-south travel and 116 Avenue or 68 Avenue for east-west travel to avoid congestion in the downtown and parade area.
Transit impacts
On Canada Day, several transit routes will be unavailable from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., including Routes 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8.
Stop closures include:
- From 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.:
- Route 3 – Stop 302
- Route 4 – Stop 402
- Route 6 – Stops 632, 634, 636, 638, 640, 642, 644, 646, 648, 650
- Route 8 – Stop 802
- From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.:
- Route 1 – Stops 3000, 164, 166, 168
Routes 1,2,5 and 9 remain in regular operation throughout the day.
Free and extended transit service
The City is offering free public transit on Canada Day to help everyone take part in the festivities.
Fixed-route buses will operate on the regular Sunday schedule from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
In addition, as a special Canada Day offering, Late Night On-Demand Transit and accessible services will operate citywide between 6 p.m. and 1 a.m. These services allow riders to book trips between any designated stops in Grande Prairie during the evening and late-night hours, making it easy to enjoy festivities downtown and get home safely.
Trips can be booked until 12:30 a.m. for service up to 1 a.m. on July 1 through gpmyride.app.ridewithvia.com, the Grande Prairie My Ride app or by calling dispatch at 780-830-RIDE (7433).
