The Newsboys spoke out at a recent concert in Phoenix, Arizona, reacting to recent allegations against their former bandmate, Michael Tait.
Before hitting the stage at the Elevate Music Festival, Adam Agee, the band's current lead singer, made a statement.
"We've been doing a lot of life together. As a lot of you know, our former lead singer of the last 15 years played his last show with us in November of last year, and in January, he came to us and he confessed to us that he'd been living a double life and he wanted to get help," said Agee. "And so he checked into a facility in Utah, and we encouraged him to do that, and we asked ourselves what's next."
The band says they prayed about it and felt God wanted them to move forward.
"We felt like we still had a ministry and a mission to do, so we decided to continue."
Adam says that a couple of weeks ago, their world was rocked when they found out about the confession and double life that Tait was living.
"We were shocked because in January, he mentioned a few things about substance abuse and some personal struggles he was having at home when he wasn't on the road, but never anything of the magnitude of what we read and what was reported," said Agee. "And never anything that could have made us ever think that possibly could be a danger to others or anything like that. And it was so shocking to us because it's not the guy that we knew."
Since the news broke, the band says they have faced some difficult challenges.
"It's just been devastating for us and our families. We have felt like our names have been just dragged through the mud because of all of this, and it's really hurt us and our kids."
Most recently, the band was dropped from their label, Capitol Christian Music Group.
"We've had radio stations pull our music, and we've been cancelled by promoters and venues all over the world."
That includes Kingdom Bound, which replaced the band with Passion Music for the July 28 festival lineup.
The Newsboys were also scheduled to stop in Winnipeg on Friday, June 6. However, their Canadian tour was cancelled suddenly on May 24.
