While the recent rainfall is more than welcome across the province, it's been putting a solid dent in first pitch plans for local baseball teams.

One of those teams in particular, the WCBL's Saskatoon Berries, played a doubleheader over the weekend against the Energy City Cactus Rats. After their Saturday game at Cairns Field was rained out, in Ernie Banks fashion on Sunday it was a great chance to play two, and the Berries walked away with a pair of wins 4-3 and 4-0 to send fans home happy after a long day at the ballpark.

When we checked in with the team last week the Berries were in the midst of a six-game winning streak. They kept the W streak going with two wins over the Sylvan Lake Gulls last Tuesday and Wednesday but then fell for the first time since June 8 with a tight 8-7 loss to the Medicine Hat Mavericks.

That result brought the Berries back home, with the rain, rebounding nicely in their series against the Cactus Rats. Carter Beck and Abiam Medina each had three hits in the first game to guide Saskatoon to victory, and then in the second game it was Nathan Houston joining the hit parade with three of his own, Medina picking up another two base knocks.

After a day off Monday where they unveiled a new look (available above), the Berries hit Highway #11 Tuesday night to play the Regina Red Sox from Currie Field.

That's the first half of a home and home as the Red Sox will make a return trip to Saskatoon on Wednesday night for a 7:00 PM start from Cairns Field.
