RCMP in the Unity region responded to a variety of calls during the week of June 17 to 23, ranging from harassing communications to a rail car fire near Winter.

According to the latest detachment report, police received a complaint of harassing communications that remains under investigation. Officers were also called upon to mediate a family dispute and conducted a wellbeing check at the request of a concerned relative.

Members responded to two separate incidents to keep the peace while individuals retrieved personal belongings from residences. In another call, police investigated a report of a dog left in a vehicle. Officers attended and determined no further action was necessary.

A criminal harassment complaint was filed during the week, though investigators said there was not enough evidence to proceed. A similar outcome occurred following a report of uttering threats and a separate complaint of disturbing the peace.

One of the more serious incidents of the week involved a rail car fire in a rural area near Winter. Unity Fire Department responded to extinguish the blaze, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Police were also called to assist Child and Family Services at a local residence, and in a separate case, officers helped locate a missing person.

A sexual assault complaint is currently under investigation by Unity RCMP. Meanwhile, officers assisted paramedics with a patient who was later airlifted to the hospital by STARS Air Ambulance with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

In another case, RCMP were told of an individual in possession of stolen property. The property was returned, and the complainant declined further action.

CN Police also reported a railway crossing malfunction in Unity, which was noted for information purposes.

The detachment handled a Mental Health Act complaint during the week and also responded to two false 911 calls.
