The one on the right would need a muzzle to visit Cairns Field in Saskatoon

The Saskatoon Berries of the Western Canadian Baseball League held a pup-tastic promotion back on Wednesday when they hosted the Regina Red Sox from Cairns Field in Saskatoon.

The game itself didn't disappoint as fans were treated a tight 6-5 ballgame ending in Berries victory.

Lead-off man and Saskatchewan's own Carter Beck did his best greyhound impression, using his speed to steal two bases, and sighthound eyes to draw a pair of walks, ("?!" my dog says) on route to also scoring two runs in the tight Berries win.

Summer leagues like the WCBL thrive when things are fun, and the canines were put on display during an inning break.

Hot dogs were only $2, a perfect canine-companion snack.

Improving their record to 19-3, the Berries have been nothing short of a wagon this year and are fresher than ever winning four straight games and going 9-1 in their last ten.

The Berries return to the field tomorrow on the road in Medicine Hat where they will play the Mavericks at 7:00 PM, and then again at 2:00 PM Sunday before returning home.

A jam-packed week then starts Monday as the Berries host the Red Sox again for the first of a home-and-home, going back to Regina Tuesday for a Canada Day game at 2:00 PM from Currie Field.

After that Saskatoon hosts Moose Jaw and Weyburn on consecutive nights before travelling to Moose Jaw on Friday, before starting another home-and-home with Regina on Saturday from Cairns Field.
