The Swift Current Fire Department's quick action Wednesday evening ensured a successful rescue mission for a youth stranded at the cutbanks.
Emergency crews were mobilized around 7:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a child trapped at the end of the cutbanks on the south side of Swift Current.
Jim Green, deputy chief of the Swift Current Fire Department, said that upon their arrival, they found a young person on a steep embankment.
"We set up high-angle rescue equipment and deployed a member over the edge to secure the child," he said. "The youth was put in a rescue harness attached to the haul system and was lifted back up to safety."
Green added that no injuries from the incident were reported to him, although he was unsure whether the youth had been taken to the hospital by EMS.
"The Swift Current Fire Department would like to remind everyone to not cross those barricades along the cutbanks," he said. "The ground beyond it is unstable, and there is significant fall risk in this area."
