It all started with a Slurpee.

One entrant in the DQ Celebrate Summer contest shared that she craved Slurpees during her pregnancy—and now her daughter is hooked too. Enter for your chance to win a 6 month premium carwash from Timberfalls. That got us thinking: what were your most unforgettable pregnancy cravings? We asked, and you delivered some truly hilarious, heartwarming, and surprising answers.

Onions and Off-Limits
Herta texted in with a craving you don’t hear every day:
“My pregnancy craving was onions. I would cut a whole onion up, put it in a bowl with salt and vinegar and eat it!”
Her son is now 35—and still refuses to eat onions.

Sour Power and Sweet Truths
Tess shared how each of her three kids came with their own unique craving story:

  • Kid 1: Sour candy, lemons (a lemon a day for two weeks). He still loves sour things.

  • Kid 2: Couldn’t get enough fruit and still picks it over candy.

  • Kid 3: Couldn’t eat meat for the first trimester—and now avoids it as much as possible.

Pickles and Ranch
Marie craved olives and dill pickles with her first pregnancy. During her second, it was salad with ranch dressing—despite normally hating ranch.
“The smell was so enticing.”

Sherri shared a craving from her mom’s pregnancy:
A&W root beer milkshake with their pickles.
Joanne added her own version: just plain root beer from A&W was a must-have.

Unique and Unexpected
Gabby had one of the more surprising submissions:
“Cream of celery soup. Haven’t had it since, and that was 40 years ago.”

Kyra combined pasta, butter, chicken stock powder and toffee bits into one unforgettable (and unrepeatable) dish.
Shelley? Her go-to snacks were Chiclets and green Kool-Aid.

Salty, Crunchy, and Crave-Worthy
Michelle couldn’t get enough green olives—especially garlic- or blue cheese-stuffed ones.
Dion shared his wife’s snack attack: dill pickle chip dip and salt and vinegar chips.
Liz loved coconut curry soup, sour gummies, and—again—salt and vinegar chips.

Comfort Food Favorites
Mercedes needed burgers.
Drusilla was all about watermelon.
Chelsey craved French fries and DQ ice cream—and now her son does too.
Audrey, who never liked seafood before, suddenly needed lobster and other ocean treats. Her son? A seafood fan for life.
June still remembers the deep-fried perogies with sour cream she craved, made homemade at the Dominion City Hotel—42 years ago.

Cravings from the Couch (or the Pew!)
Daisy shared a spiritual-meets-savoury moment with Costco hot dogs:
“All I could think about was Costco hot dogs with onions… I was sitting in church and it felt kind of sacrilegious. Should I be thinking about hot dogs like this?!”

Dawn had a cheese whiz era she’s never quite forgotten:

  • Pregnancy 1: Bologna wrapped around a dill pickle with cheese whiz—satisfying every craving in one bite.

  • Pregnancy 2: Toast with cheese whiz and jam. “It was so good, Carly.”
She laughs now that she rarely touches cheese whiz—unless it’s a serious emergency.

Judy went in a completely different direction:
“All I wanted was steamed broccoli. No butter, no cheese. Just a big plate of broccoli.”
She still loves it to this day—and is happy to report she's definitely not pregnant anymore.

Blizzards, Ice, and Sunflower Seeds
Natalie once sent her husband out in a blizzard to get her a Blizzard.
Hannah’s cravings were precise: iced water from Tim Hortons (had to be from there), gummy bears, Slurpees, and sunflower seeds.

Pregnancy cravings are unpredictable, unforgettable, and often become family legends. Whether it’s vinegar-soaked onions, ranch dressing, or deep-fried perogies, those snack-time stories stick around long after the cravings are gone.

Thanks to everyone who shared a piece of their craving journey with us. Sometimes, the strangest cravings make the sweetest memories.
