On June 21, 2025, the Rural Grande Prairie County RCMP were conducting proactive patrols in the Clairmont area when they pulled over a vehicle. In the course of the traffic stop, officers noted drug paraphernalia, which resulted in the arrest of the occupant and the subsequent search of the vehicle. The search revealed approximately 4.237 kilograms of methamphetamine, 1.589 kilograms of cocaine and just over $11,000 in Canadian currency, believed to be proceeds of crime.
As a result of he investigation, Chad Simonson (50), a resident of Grande Prairie, was charged with:
- Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking;
- Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking;
- Possession of proceeds of crime over $5000; and
- Failure to comply with release order condition (x2).
Simonson was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into Custody. He is to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Grande Prairie on June 30, 2025.

Removing these drugs from our streets helps protect our youth and families from the devastating effects of illicit drug activity”.
